Tenants at Trades Hall
The New International Bookshop and Cafe
Located at Trades Hall, it is renowned for stocking publications that are not often available in Melbourne. Most of these take a critical look at the way that our society is organised. They offer explanations for, and alternatives to, a world of poverty, hunger, environmental destruction, violence, oppression and repression. The focus is not just non-fiction and theory. We sell novels, poetry, journals, magazines and newspapers, and even children's books. All profits go back into the bookshop to make it even better. The New International Café is filled with natural light - cool in Summer and warm in Winter. This makes it an ideal spot for meeting friends for a quick lunch or afternoon tea. We also have a meeting room that comfortably seats 40 people. Organisations are welcome to use this space for special events or regular meetings during the day or in the evening, seven days a week. We hold a range of special events and meetings at the bookshop - talks, discussions and book launches. You can be put on the mailing list by calling the shop on Or visit the website on http://www.nibs.org.au Or better still come in and browse - we are on the Corner of Victoria and Lygon Streets, Carlton and are open 10.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday, and 11am to 5pm weekends. The New International Bookshop and Cafe is co-operatively owned and run by people who would like to see a fairer society.
